Shatter vs Budder vs Live Resin vs Diamonds — A Buyer’s Guide
Shatter, budder, live resin, diamonds
Four names for what is broadly the same idea — cannabis with the plant matter taken out. The differences are texture, flavour and how much you pay for terpenes.
The short version
Budder is the easiest to handle and the cheapest way in. Shatter is the classic. Live resin costs more because it keeps the terpenes. Diamonds are the strongest thing on the shelf. If you’re new, start with budder at $19.

Budder — start here
Whipped during extraction until it goes opaque and soft, roughly the texture of cold butter. That texture is the whole selling point: budder is by far the easiest concentrate to handle. It scoops onto a dab tool without a fight and it doesn’t shatter across the table.
It’s also our cheapest proper extract — El Chapo Budder is $19 a gram. If you have never dabbed before, buy this one.
Shatter — the classic
Hard, glassy, translucent, and it snaps when you break it. Shatter is what most people picture when they hear the word concentrate, and it’s still the most widely available form.
The trade-off is handling and flavour. It’s brittle and fiddly at room temperature, and the process that gives it that glass-like clarity costs you some terpenes along the way. It’s potent and it’s consistent — just not the most flavourful option.
Live resin — the flavour one
Here’s the actual difference: live resin is made from flower frozen immediately after harvest rather than dried and cured first. Terpenes are volatile — they evaporate during drying — so freezing captures far more of them.
That’s why live resin costs more and why it tastes noticeably better. Texture is looser and saucier than shatter. If you care about flavour over everything, this is the category.
Ours starts at $40 — Gorilla Glue and Blue Dream.
Diamonds — the strongest
Actual crystalline THCA that has formed out of the extract, usually sitting in a terpene sauce. Visually they look like their name. Functionally they are the most potent thing on the shelf.
The crystals carry the strength; the sauce around them carries the flavour. You’ll see them sold as diamonds and as caviar — the same idea, different ratio of crystal to sauce.
Prices run $30 to $53 depending on the strain. This is not where beginners should start.
And where kief and hash fit
Kief and hash are the solventless end of the same idea. Kief is just sifted trichomes; hash is kief pressed with heat. Neither is as strong as a solvent extract, but neither involves any solvent at all — and kief works out under $4 a gram, which nothing else here comes close to.

Questions people actually ask
What is the difference between shatter and budder?
Texture, mostly. Budder is whipped during extraction until it turns soft and opaque; shatter is left to set hard and glassy. Budder is far easier to handle; shatter is the more familiar form.
Why is live resin more expensive?
It is made from flower frozen right after harvest instead of dried and cured. Terpenes evaporate during drying, so freezing preserves far more of them — which means better flavour and a more involved process.
What are diamonds?
Crystalline THCA that has formed out of the extract, usually sitting in a terpene sauce. They are the most potent product on the shelf. Caviar is the same idea with a different crystal-to-sauce ratio.
Which concentrate is best for beginners?
Budder. It is the easiest to handle, it is forgiving if your technique is not perfect, and at $19 it is the cheapest way to find out whether concentrates are for you.
What is the cheapest concentrate per gram?
Kief, comfortably. An ounce is $100, which works out under $4 a gram. It is milder than a solvent extract but nothing else comes close on value.
Do you ship concentrates across Canada?
Yes, to every province and territory. Expedited is 3–7 business days with tracking, with 2-day and next-day at checkout. Free over $120, vacuum-sealed in a plain unmarked mailer.
