Girl Scout Cookies Strain (GSC): Indica or Sativa, THC and Effects
Girl Scout Cookies (GSC)
The strain that rewrote what a hybrid could taste like. Sweet, minty, faintly peppery — and far heavier than its dessert name suggests.
Is Girl Scout Cookies indica or sativa?
Indica-dominant — roughly 60% indica, 40% sativa. It is a true hybrid, not a disguised indica: the high starts cerebral and euphoric, then settles into the body. Expect a creative, giggly twenty minutes before the weight arrives. Pre-rolls from $4.
What’s actually in it
Girl Scout Cookies is a cross of OG Kush and Durban Poison, and you can taste both parents clearly.
OG Kush brings the weight, the fuel and the body load. Durban Poison — a South African landrace sativa and one of the purest sativas in circulation — brings the bright, almost sharp cerebral lift and a hint of anise. That pairing is the whole trick: most indica-dominant hybrids get their indica half from one parent and dilute it with another indica. GSC dilutes it with a landrace sativa, which is why the head effect arrives first and arrives hard.
It emerged from California in the early 2010s and went from local favourite to one of the most-cloned strains on earth within about three years. Nearly every modern dessert strain — anything with “Cookies”, “Gelato” or “Sherbert” in the name — traces back to it somewhere.
How strong is it?
Well-grown GSC tests between 20% and 28% THC, and selected batches push past 30%. That puts it firmly in the potent tier — not a specialist extreme, but well above the 15–18% most people are used to.
The practical consequence: the sativa lead makes it feel manageable at first, and people take more before the indica half lands. Give it a full twenty minutes before deciding you need another.
How it smells and tastes
Sweet and minty over a deep earthy base, with a peppery bite underneath that most dessert strains do not have. That pepper is the tell — it comes from the terpene profile, not the sugar.
Caryophyllene is dominant, typically 0.4–0.8% by weight — the same peppery compound found in black pepper and cloves. Limonene follows at 0.2–0.5%, supplying the citrus lift. Humulene sits underneath at 0.1–0.3%, adding a dry, hoppy woodiness.
That combination is why GSC tastes more complicated than the name implies. It is not simply sweet; it is sweet with structure.
What it actually does
The documented pattern is cerebral start, body finish, and it is unusually consistent across growers.
Within a few minutes there is a wave of mood lift — talkative, creative, prone to laughing at very little. As that plateaus the OG Kush side takes over and the body settles. At higher doses couch-lock is likely rather than possible.
People reach for GSC in the evening rather than at night. It is not a get-things-done strain, but nor does it put you straight to sleep.
What people use it for
Reported most often for stress, anxiety and low mood, and separately for appetite. The combination of high THC and a caryophyllene-led terpene profile is also commonly associated with physical relief — chronic pain, arthritis, migraines.
Worth saying plainly: these are user reports and terpene associations, not medical claims. If you are managing a condition, that is a conversation for a doctor, not a strain page.
The phenotypes you’ll see named
Thin Mint GSC leans more sativa, with tighter, mint-green buds and a more pronounced cerebral edge. Platinum GSC leans heavier and frostier, with more visible trichome coverage and a stronger body load. Both are selections from the original, not separate crosses — which is why the effects overlap more than the names suggest.
Who should probably skip it
If you are sensitive to THC or new to it, 20–28% with a fast cerebral onset is a poor first choice — the lift encourages overshooting before the weight arrives. If you need to stay functional for several hours, pick something lighter. And if the peppery, faintly savoury edge is not for you, no amount of “cookies” in the name will change it.

Questions people actually ask
Is Girl Scout Cookies indica or sativa?
Indica-dominant, about 60% indica to 40% sativa. It is a genuine hybrid — the effects open cerebral and euphoric from the Durban Poison side, then settle into the body from the OG Kush side.
What is GSC short for?
GSC is simply the abbreviation of Girl Scout Cookies. You will see the strain sold under both names, and increasingly under GSC alone.
What are the parents of Girl Scout Cookies?
OG Kush crossed with Durban Poison. Durban Poison is a South African landrace sativa, which is unusual — it is why the head effect is sharper than most indica-dominant hybrids.
How much THC does Girl Scout Cookies have?
Typically 20–28%, with selected batches above 30%. That is potent but not extreme. The cerebral onset makes it feel lighter than it is, so wait a full twenty minutes before taking more.
What does Girl Scout Cookies taste like?
Sweet and minty over earth, with a distinct peppery bite from caryophyllene, its dominant terpene. Limonene adds citrus and humulene a dry, hoppy note underneath.
What is the difference between Thin Mint and Platinum GSC?
Both are selections from the original rather than separate crosses. Thin Mint leans more sativa with tighter mint-green buds; Platinum leans heavier and frostier with a stronger body load.
Is it good for daytime use?
Not really. The first twenty minutes are creative and social, but the indica half arrives afterwards. Most people treat it as an evening strain.
How fast will it arrive?
Expedited is 3–7 business days with tracking, with 2-day and next-day options at checkout. Free shipping over $120. Everything ships vacuum-sealed in a plain, unmarked mailer.
